Software Development
Around 50,000 skilled
programmers, systems analysts and program managers man the Philippines'
software sector, with approximately 15,000 additional fresh graduates
of technology courses joining the workforce every year. According
to DTI statistics, there are approximately 300 software development
firms in the Philippines
The country's software development outsourcing
sector has been in operation for more than two decades now, from
the time Accenture established the Global Resource Center in 1986,
a 12-man company that developed customized software solutions. Now
the Center employs over 7,000 IT professionals and has grown into
Accenture's largest shared services solutions provider in the Philippines.
Accenture's growth augured the development of
the entire software development outsourcing industry, which is now
divided into two components. Accenture, TrendMicro, Safeway, NEC,
Fujitsu, Lexmark and Canon dominate the shared services sub-sector.
Independent software vendors, on the other hand, are those that
produce packaged commercial applications or provide services in
specialized areas. The latter support software package vendors in
areas like second-generation versions, technology updates, and modular
applications.
Software solutions providers in the Philippines
offer the following services:
- Analysis and design
- Prototyping
- Programming and testing
- Customization
- Reengineering and conversion
- Installation and maintenance
- Education and training of systems software,
